What a year it’s been, and we’re just a quarter of the way through. It’s been a rollercoaster of stress and worry. Not only worries about a global pandemic but the resulting impact on the economy. From the government’s standpoint, the best thing for consumers to do when the economy is in turmoil is to spend money. Consumer spending has a positive effect on all national economic indicators, but the same can’t necessarily be said about your personal economic indicators.

Statistics show that some 15 million Americans don’t work a typical nine-to-five schedule. These employees, aka shift workers, who punch in for graveyard or rotating shifts, are more prone to numerous health hazards, from heart attacks to obesity. New research, published in Endocrinology, shows shift work may also have serious implications for the brain.

For modern Americans, stress has become a way of life. A recent Gallup poll found that more than three out of four Americans experience stress in their daily lives, with nearly half experiencing stress frequently.
