Gas Station Gourmet
When you think of gourmet food, you probably imagine white tablecloths, fancy French dishes and well-pressed waiters, but that’s because you haven’t met Al Hebert nor heard his personal definition of “gourmet,” which basically describes anything that tastes good and pleases the palate. He’s found his own gourmet in lots of familiar and unfamiliar places, including (but not limited to) Southern gas stations.
Gas stations may not seem like a bright beacon of delicious eats, but behind many convenience store counters throughout the U.S. there are foods being baked, fried and prepared for the many patrons that stop over to get filled up, whether with unleaded gas or well-breaded snacks.
For Thrive TV, Al kicked off his Gas Station Gourmet tour with Cormie’s, 4907 Big Lake Road, Lake Charles, 474-5455; and Peto’s, 15125 Hwy. 395, just off I-10 in Roanoke, 753-2042.
